RULES FOR THE POSTER AWARDS PROGRAM
K-1, 2-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12. No county should have more than five (5) entries. (SHOULD THE COMMITTEE RECEIVE MORE THAN ONE POSTER PER CATEGORY FROM A COUNTY, THE POSTERS WILL BE SENT BACK TO THAT COUNTY AND WILL NOT BE JUDGED.)
Entrants may be identified with schools, 4-H clubs, Boy or Girl Scouts, church groups, etc. Entrants may compete in the contest conducted by the conservation district in wich they reside, or in the conservation district where they attend school. Entrants may participate in only one district contest. Home schooled children may participate in the contest. They will be judged with the grade categories listed above. Children in Special Purpose Schools** may enter the contest also. They will be judged separately with no age or grade distinction. Districts may send one entry per district in the Special Purpose School category.
SUBJECT MATTER: The subject matter shall be related to the use and/or conservation of natural resources (examples: soil, water, plants, trees, minerals, wildlife, beautification, recreation, etc., WITH SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON THE CONSERVATION OF SOIL AND WATER) for making a better community for present and future generations.
ENTRIES: Should be sent to the Secretary of the Conservation Education & Youth Committee of the Kansas Association of Conservation District (Miami County Conservation District, 100 N. Angela #3, Paola Ks. 66071) NO EARLIER THAN SEPTEMBER 1 AND NO LATER THAN OCTOBER 19 OF EACH YEAR. The entries from each district must be entered in the State Poster Awards Program by the Conservation District board of supervisors. For identification, a tab with information containing the participant's name, age, grade, home address, and the conservation district must be pasted to the back of the poster in the lower left-hand corner. (Special purpose students need not list age or grade). No identification is to be on the front of the poster. (We are asking that each conservation district type the names of each entry for correct spelling and readability). Please use the tab below or one like it.
EXHIBITING AND AWARDS: Winning Posters shall be exhibited at the annual meeting of the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts at which time the winners will be announced. Awards will be presented to the top eight winners in each division. Plaques will be given to first place winners. Second place winners will receive a medal or trophy and a framed certificate, third place winners will receive a medal or trophy and framed certificate. Framed certificates will be presented to five honorable mention winners. It is the responsibility of each conservation district to pick up their poster entries after the final general session.
POSTER RULES:
Posters shall be on suitable paper, 12"x18", and arranged for horizontal display only.
Poster shall not be mounted on other background materials.
Posters may be computer generated, in pencil, pen and ink, paint, watercolor, crayon, cut paper, etc.
Wrap posters between cardboard and DO NOT ROLL OR FOLD FOR MAILING.
The judges will select winners according to the score sheet as follows:
Conservation Theme................................30%
Clarity of Message ..................................30%
Originality and Public Interest...................20%
Neatness and Appearance.........................20%
